Helping Community Amid Crises

lifestyle

The world has changed dramatically over the course of a short (well, some may argue very long) month. But in times of good and in times of challenge, there is always something that people can be in charge of — and that is their perspective. It’s important in difficult times to remember the people that are on the frontlines of the crisis, and the ones that are impacted the most. Koibito Poke suggests the following ways to reach out to family, friends, neighbors and the community at large.

Check-in

Everyone handles challenges differently — some people may reach out and ask for help while others may not feel comfortable doing so. For the latter group, if you haven’t heard from them in a while, why not shoot them a text or give them a call to see if they need an extra hand with anything. Just the check-in itself will likely be received with gratitude. Or those at less risk can offer to pick up groceries or much-needed cleaning supplies and household staples for the seniors in their families or neighborhoods.

For Those That Can, Donate

or those in a financial position to help, consider making a monetary donation to a community non-profit or donating supplies to senior living communities, schools, homeless shelters, and food banks that are working overtime right now to ensure the residents of the community have what they need to survive.

Support Local

Small businesses have been impacted greatly over the past month and a half. It’s more important than ever to consider choices when shopping and dining to go. Purchases can even be made in gift cards to give to friends, loved ones or even drop off to hospitals, fire departments or police stations to distribute to their hardworking first responders. And many local restaurants have their own meal donation programs — including Koibito Poke of course! Supporters can make donations online by clicking here and in turn, Koibito Poke will donate meals to community programs including Paiute Neighborhood Center, Mayo Hospital and the Honor Health Deer Valley ER.

Apart, Yet Together

For those that aren’t able to be with loved ones and friends right now, consider ways to brighten their day… from a distance! Arrange a video call, mail a card or have a special delivery of flowers or cookies sent to their doorstep. It’s important in these times that even when people can’t be together as they are used to being, they can still feel connected.

Koibito Poke encourages people to do what they can to help their community during these times. Even the smallest (free!) gesture can make a big difference in someone’s life.
